According to a report from the Daily Mail, Everton are considering making a summer move for Crystal Palace left-back Patrick van Aanholt – who had been on Sam Allardyce’s radar before he was dismissed by the Toffees.

The Mail reports that Everton are plotting a bid for a left-back as they plan for Leighton Baines’ eventual departure at Goodison Park, and van Aanholt is one of the few names on the list who remains available.

The Mail suggests that Luke Shaw plans to stay at Manchester United while a deal for Tottenham’s Danny Rose is unlikely. Everton also wanted Baba Rahman, but the Chelsea ace is on loan at Schalke until next summer.

Despite being linked with a move to Goodison Park in the past, it may surprise some Toffees fans that van Aanholt is on the club’s radar this summer given that it was Allardyce who previously wanted to bring him to Merseyside having worked with him at Sunderland and then signed him for Crystal Palace.

Patrick van Aanholt of Crystal Palace applauds fans after the Premier League match between Everton and Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on February 10, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

Van Aanholt enjoyed a decent year with the Eagles, especially from an attacking sense, as he scored five goals in the Premier League to help Roy Hodgson’s men recover from a shocking start to the campaign to stay up comfortably. Only two teammates scored more goals in the league.

And despite finishing in the bottom-half of the table, Palace actually conceded three fewer goals than Everton this past season, so perhaps he may also be able to help the Toffees keep a better record if he does join and steps into Baines’ role at Goodison Park.
