A number of Championship and League One clubs are tracking Stevenage striker Danny Newton, HITC Sport understands.

Newton has caught the eye at Stevenage this season after joining the club last summer on a free transfer from Tamworth.

The 27-year-old came to Stevenage’s attention after impressing at Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy last summer and he has been a revelation for the League Two club.

Newton scored 16 goals and laid on seven assists in his debut season for the club in his first experience of the Football League.

The prolific striker’s rise to prominence has not gone unnoticed among clubs higher up the football pyramid, with several sides making regular checks on Newton during the season.

Championship duo Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers are looking to bolster their attacking options for next season and they are weighing up a move for Newton.

League One quartet Charlton Athletic, Bradford City, Burton Albion and Fleetwood Town are all admirers of Newton and are ready to test Stevenage’s resolve to hang on to the player.

Newton is entering the final year of his contract at Stevenage and the club are bracing themselves for offers for the striker during this summer’s transfer window.
