Southampton are reportedly moving for Carpi FC’s right-back Tobias Pachonik; what’s next for Cedric then?

Southampton are looking to secure early summer business in the form of German right-back Tobias Pachonik, according to reports from Turkish-Football, which begs the question: what next for Cedric Soares?

The 23-year-old Carpi FC defender has attracted growing interest across Europe after an impressive season in the Italian second tier and his campaign was rewarded with a spot in the Serie B team of the season – voted by the club coaches of the 22 teams (Tuttomercatoweb).

If Southampton do move for a new right back, does that mean Cedric’s future is away from St Mary’s?

Tottenham were reported to be weighing up a move for the Saints defender last month, with the Sun reporting that Mauricio Pochettino isn’t content with the performance levels of Serge Aurier since his arrival last summer, but progress on a deal has gone quiet recently.

However, Pochettino may see this impending business as an opportunity to re-open plans to bring in the Portuguese international – with Pachonik likely to select one of his many suitors based on the promise of regular playing time.

The Argentine coach is yet to replace Kyle Walker with an outstanding right-back, although Kevin Trippier has performed steadily when called upon. But he will surely want a top quality addition to ensure his side can compete for all honours next term, and Cedric fits the bill.

Any potential deal would likely hinge on Mark Hughes bringing in his replacement though, and he is said to be facing competition from Aston Villa, Fiorentina and Eintracht Frankfurt for the player’s signature.
