Aston Villa could have to sell Jack Grealish after the Villans missed out on securing promotion out of the Championship.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (27/05; page 73), it is looking likely that Jack Grealish will be sold this summer as Aston Villa brace themselves for a third successive season in the Championship.

Grealish has been superb throughout the campaign, and was a real driving force for Steve Bruce’s men as they reached the play-off final with only Fulham standing between the Villans and a return to the Premier League.

Unfortunately for Villa, the Cottagers were the better side on the day and a first-half goal from Tom Cairney proved to be the difference between the two teams as Slavisa Jokanovic’s men joined Wolves and Cardiff City in securing promotion.

The Sunday Mirror (27/05; page 73) reports that Villa are now resigned to selling a number of their key players, and cashing in on Grealish is now likely with the club set to demand more than £20 million for a deal.

Grealish has been superb this past season and it would be a huge blow for the club to lose him this summer. The 22-year-old scored three goals and provided six assists in 30 Championship appearances, and managed that after suffering a horrific injury in pre-season.

It is not difficult to imagine that some Premier League sides will be keen to take a chance on the attacking midfielder this summer, but it would be a huge boost for Villa if they were able to keep him at the club.

He has the quality to inspire Bruce’s men back into the promotion picture once again next season, and looks set to develop into the kind of player who would have been good enough to help the Villans re-establish themselves at the highest level.
