Tottenham Hotspur are said to be in discussions with Manchester United over Toby Alderweireld.

Toby Alderweireld of Spura arrives prior to The Emirates FA Cup Quarter Final match between Swansea City and Tottenham Hotspur at Liberty Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

Tottenham Hotspur fans appear divided over reports that Toby Alderweireld could be sold to Manchester United for £75 million.

The Daily Mirror claim that United have entered negotiations with Spurs over signing the centre-back.

The reports have garnered a mixed reaction from Tottenham fans, who are in disagreement over the potential transfer.

While there are some Tottenham fans who recognise that getting £75 million for a 29-year-old centre back would be an impressive deal, others feel that they simply cannot afford to let the Belgian go to a rival.

Mauricio Pochettino is understood to be willing to part ways with Alderweireld, although the Argentine boss will want the money from his sale re-invested.

Spurs have been unable to agree a new contract with Alderweireld, who is understood to want a pay increase from his current £50,000-a-week salary, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Alderweireld missed much of the past season with injury, but even when he was fit, Pochettino often overlooked the former Southampton and Atletico Madrid defender.

During his time with Spurs, Alderweireld has developed a reputation as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League, and finding a player of quality quality to him would be a tough task.

The London Evening Standard claim that Ajax man Matthijs De Ligt is Spurs’ first choice replacement for Alderweireld, if he does depart this summer.
