The West Ham United co-owner was speaking to Talksport on Wednesday.
Gold - who famously used a photo of Angelo Ogbonna when welcoming Pedro Obiang to West Ham - was heard discussing a number of topics while live on Talksport on Wednesday.
Among them was the potential of Declan Rice, the teenage Hammers defender, which Gold hopes can be maximised by Manuel Pellegrini, the newly appointed London Stadium manager.
Rice played 31 times for West Ham this past campaign, although it appears there are still a few gaps in the 81-year-old's knowledge of the player - who made his full international debut for Ireland earlier this year.
And many of a Hammers persuasion - including the club's former defender, Gabbidon - were quick to pull him up on it.
Ha ha! David Gold hoping Manuel Pellegrini will turn Declan Rice into and ENGLAND player... Already setting unrealistic targets!— Daniel Gabbidon (@Gabbidon35) 23 May 2018
Why does David Gold think our IRISH centre back Declan Rice is English?— Jay WEST AAAAAAAM' (@hammerandtalk) 23 May 2018

@JimWhite Does David Gold not realise Declan Rice is an Irish international. Why is he suggesting Pellegrini might develop him into an England player— Declan Finnegan (@peedeef) 23 May 2018
Oh dear David Gold (Dildo Brother #2) just said on TalkSPORT he hopes Pelligrini can make Declan Rice an England international which may be a struggle seeing as Rice is a full Ireland international— Capitano (@_JamaicaJamaica) 23 May 2018
Will West Ham ever succeed with Gold and Sullivan in charge?
