HITC Sport understands Reading are eyeing a move for Republic of Ireland international Meyler, who has been released by Hull City.

Reading are lining up a move for free agent David Meyler following his release by Hull City, HITC Sport understands.

Meyler’s deal at Hull expired at the end of the season and the club informed he would not be getting a new deal at the KCOM Stadium.

The 28-year-old joined Hull from Sunderland in January 2013 after a successful loan spell and scored 16 goals in 157 league appearances for the Tigers.

Republic of Ireland international Meyler twice won promotion to the Premier League with Hull and helped the club reach the 2014 FA Cup final.

News of Meyler’s availability has alerted a number of clubs and Reading are hoping to steal a march on their rivals by setting up a deal to take him to the Madejski Stadium.

Reading boss Paul Clement is desperate to bolster his squad this summer following a disappointing campaign last season which saw the Royals just narrowly avoid relegation.

Clement has already brought in former Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom on a free transfer this month and he is now hoping to add the experienced Meyler to his squad ahead of next season.
