PSV Eindhoven striker Luuk de Jong has been quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying that he has interest from other clubs – and joked about following Marcel Brands to Everton.
De Jong, 27, made his name with Twente in the Eredivisie, hitting 59 goals in 123 games to earn a 2012 move to German side Borussia Monchengladbach, where he was tipped for stardom.
However, the 6ft 2in striker struggled in Germany and was even sent to England with Newcastle United, where he failed to score a single goal in 12 games during the second half of the 2013-14 season.
De Jong returned to the Netherlands after that and has been back on the goal trail with PSV Eindhoven, scoring 80 goals in 155 games, including 58 during his first two seasons
Now, De Jong could be on the move this summer after telling Voetbal Primeur that he has interest from other clubs, and allegedly 'winked' when joking about following Marcel Brands to Everton.
“I have no idea yet, there is certainly interest from other clubs, and if there is something beautiful that suits me, I would certainly consider it,” said De Jong. “But I'm really enjoying it at PSV, it's not like I have to leave. Certainly not. Maybe [Brands] can get me to Everton," he added 'with a wink'.
Brands was PSV's technical director from 2011 up until Wednesday of this week, as he left the club in order to move on and become Everton's new director of football.
Brands did oversee bringing De Jong to PSV four years ago, but having struggled in England once already, Everton fans may not be too keen on De Jong following Brands to Goodison Park.
