Tottenham Hotspur are said to be keen on Alfie Mawson
Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with Alfie Mawson over the past year and the centre-back could be their easiest transfer target this summer.
Mawson has been Swansea City's star man over the past two seasons and the club's relegation makes his departure from the club inevitable.
The Express reported earlier this month that Mawson is being valued by Swansea at £40 million, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will fancy his chances of knocking this price down substantially.
Swansea's relegation means they will struggle to hold onto their captain and Tottenham are in the market for a new centre-back with Toby Alderweireld likely to leave.
Mawson's price will not be inflated by the World Cup either, with SkySports reporting he has undergone an operation on a knee problem which ruled him out of contention for the squad, although he is expected to be fully fit for the start of next season.
This also strengthens Tottenham's hand with regards to negotiations, limiting Swansea from over charging for the defender.
Swapping the Championship for Champions League should be a no brainer for Mawson, and while Tottenham may have more ambitious plans with regards to Ajax sensation Matthijs de Ligt, the Swansea defender is likely to be their easiest transfer target to acquire.
