PSV Eindhoven have confirmed Marcel Brands will take over as director of football at Everton.
Marcel Brands will take over as Everton’s new director of football as part of an exciting shake-up on the blue half of Merseyside.
Just hours after the Toffees confirmed the departure of manager Sam Allardyce, PSV Eindhoven announced via their official Twitter account their highly regarded technical director will leave the club to take up a new challenge at Goodison Park.
Brands is expected to work closely with whoever comes into replace the departing Allardyce – with former Watford boss Marco Silva and Paulo Fonseca of Shakhtar Donetsk the two current favourites for the vacant role.
During his hugely successful eight year spell at the Phillips Stadion, Brands oversaw the club’s transfer and academy strategy with Georginio Wijnaldum, Memphis Depay, Kevin Strootman and Dries Mertens among the many success stories from his tenure.
With the vast majority of Everton fans not too upset to see the back of Allardyce, the news of Brands arrival has seen spirits soar further with many at the club so eager for change.
Sam Allardyce out of Everton today, and Marcel Brands is confirmed as joined. It’s been a good day.— Mitchell (@MitchellTerrett) May 16, 2018
Given their latest acquisition’s reputation as one of the best talent spotters in Dutch football, Everton fans have already begun to speculate on who could arrive at the club this summer on Brands’ recommendation, with talented playmaker Hakim Ziyech and Mexico international Hirving Lozano already popular shouts.
Great appointment IMO. Brands has excellent ties with Mino Railoa which could help in recruiting new players. Chucky Lozano might not be a bad start, he’s recently switch to Mino as his agent. #EFC— Mark L (@Toffybolox) May 16, 2018
