Liverpool fans took to Twitter to openly criticise the former Chelsea starlet, despite him scoring.
Dominic Solanke, 20, made just his fifth appearance for the Reds in Sunday's 4-0 rout over Brighton at Anfield and managed to net his first goal for the club, ending an impressive domestic campaign for Liverpool.
His barren run of 27 appearances without a goal finally came to an end in the 58th minute, as the striker latched on to a perfectly weighted pass from Mohamed Salah and emphatically converted the chance into the roof of the net, leaving skipper Mat Ryan helpless between the sticks.
However, despite his endeavours, a number of Liverpool supporters took exception to what they believe was one too many below-par performances from the forward, and revealed their frustrations on Twitter during the match.
Solanke is pretty useless like.— Lewis (@HuttonPlays) May 13, 2018
I expected alot from Solanke this season but he’s been underwhelming despite his age. David Ngog was so much better... #LFC— fabreyas (@fabreyas) May 13, 2018
Lovren is better at scoring than solanke— Lauren☘️ (@_laurendoherty_) May 13, 2018
It's been useless if you ask me. He needs to learn to pass more often. He's good at interceptions but bad and very poor at co-op and passing.— 12gagehouston (@12gagehouston) May 13, 2018
Solanke scores a goal, my ass (Solanke will never score)— Andrew (@triolinho) May 13, 2018
Although it seems unlikely Solanke will be shown the exit door so prematurely at Anfield, Steven Gerrard is reportedly keen on an early reunion at Rangers - having just left the Academy at Liverpool - with the Scottish Sun claiming the Englishman is Gerrard's priority signing when the summer window reopens.
Whether or not Jurgen Klopp will deem the Liverpool youngster surplus to requirements after the summer remains to be seen, but Solanke will surely have to improve his goal scoring tally to win the supporters round next term.
