West Ham United are reportedly ready to take on their Premier League rivals Brighton for Thomas Delaney’s signature.

Denamrk's Thomas Delaney celebrates after scoring the 1-0 during the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification football match between Denmark and Poland in Copenhagen on September 1, 2017.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (13/05; 10:23), West Ham have entered the race to sign Thomas Delaney from Werder Bremen after his superb season in the Bundesliga.

Delaney has made 32 appearances in the top flight this year, scoring three goals and providing four assists from holding midfield. Unsurprisingly, it appears that a handful of clubs are keen on signing him during the upcoming window.

The Daily Mirror reports on its live transfer feed (13/05; 10:23) that the Hammers are keen on the Denmark international, while Brighton have already made a £10 million bid for the 26-year-old. Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported this week that Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both monitoring his situation.

The Mail’s report suggested that the German side are looking for £16.8 million, so it would certainly appear that West Ham would have little problem affording a move for Delaney if they decided that he was the ideal target for the coming months.

The Irons arguably need to strengthen their holding midfield options during the summer. Mark Noble has been superb at times, but his form has dipped just as regularly and Cheikhou Kouyate has really struggled to impress this year.

Delaney may not be a guaranteed success if he did make the move to the London Stadium, but his form in Germany this year coupled with Bremen’s asking price suggests that a deal has the potential to be a real masterstroke for the Irons.
