Manchester United were hoping to nab Beni Baningime from Premier League rivals Everton – but he’s staying at Goodison Park.

It might have been a disappointing season for Everton but at least the future looks bright at Goodison Park.

Tom Davies, Mason Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have all broken into the first-team squad after helping David Unsworth’s U23s lift the Premier League 2 title last season. And Beni Baningime looks set to be the latest Merseyside youngster to cement his place in Everton’s senior squad.

The 19-year-old midfielder only signed a new contract back in October but he is so highly-rated at Goodison Park that Everton have handed him a renewed deal just seven months later.

The Mail states that Baningime, who moved to England at the age of eight having been born in the Democratic Republic of Congo, has inked a four-year deal until 2022.

And this should not be underestimated. Securing the talented young midfielder is a major coup for Everton considering that none other than Manchester United have been keeping a close eye on his development.

The Mail stated in the autumn that United were hoping to nab Baningime from their north west neighbours because, at the time, his contact was due to expire in the summer of 2018.

The Red Devils have made a habit over the years of luring some of the most exciting talents around to Old Trafford and Baningime must surely have at least given some thought of a switch to England’s biggest club.

So the fact that Everton have convinced him to commit his future to them should be seen as a major victory.
