West Ham are likely to be in the market for a central midfielder this summer.

Huddersfield Town playmaker Aaron Mooy has been a shining light in the Terriers’ fight against relegation this season, but the Yorkshire club could still be relegated – and West Ham fans want to sign the Australian if his side go down.

David Wagner’s side sit in 16th place in the Premier League table, just three points above the drop zone with only three league games still to play between now and the end of the season.

Huddersfield are on a bad run of form that has seen them win just one league game in their last seven, and they face a very tough run-in against Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.

It could see 27-year-old Mooy relegated with the Terriers, and that may mean the Australia international could leave in the summer in order to retain Premier League football on a personal level.

West Ham have been after a central midfielder since David Moyes took over at the club, failing to lure the likes of Tom Cairney, Leander Dendoncker and Jonjo Shelvey to the London Stadium during the January transfer window.

With Pedro Obiang injured, it has seen the Hammers forced to make do with only Mark Noble, Cheikhou Kouyate and Edimilson Fernandes in the middle of the park. Youngster Josh Cullen has even appeared on the bench.

Hammers fans were asked whether they would want to sign former Manchester City star Mooy in the summer if Huddersfield go down, and the majority liked the idea of signing the ball-playing midfielder.
