A report has suggested what sort of price could lead to Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier leaving Ibrox.

A report from the Daily Record has suggested that Rangers could be tempted to consider any bids for James Tavernier that are worth upwards of £4 million as he continues to attract attention.

While the wheels have come off the Gers’ season, Tavernier is undoubtedly one of the Light Blues’ better players. The 26-year-old has been a solid defender during his time at Ibrox and is more than a handful going forward, having scored 25 goals in all competitions since arriving from Wigan Athletic in 2015.

The Sunday Mirror (29/04; page 62) reported at the weekend that Swansea City, Everton and Burnley are all keen to hand him the chance to play in the Premier League, with the relegation-threatened Swans leading the charge for the right-back.

And the Daily Record has now suggested £4 million may be the kind of figure that tempts the Light Blues to sell Tavernier during the upcoming window. Whether that will make the former Newcastle trainee more appealing to the top flight trio remains to be seen.

When Tavernier is at his best, he should arguably command a much higher fee than £4 million. He is not only an important player in the side, both in an attacking and defending sense, but he is also a leader, having worn the captain’s armband for much of the campaign. Replacing him also will not be easy.

However, he is one of the many Rangers players who can be inconsistent and has been hugely disappointing in the two recent Old Firm games, so there may well be a number of supporters who are not against the idea of selling him for at least £4 million if that bid comes in.
