Should Premier League side Crystal Palace make a move to sign Willem II's prolific striker Fran Sol to solve their goal-scoring problems?

As it stands, Crystal Palace look a good bet to be a Premier League side next season.

So Roy Hodgson and co should start preparing for the summer transfer window and look to bring in much-needed additions to ensure a repeat of this season does not happen. In particular, a new goal-scorer is badly needed.

The struggles of £27 million record signing Christian Benteke have been well documented, the Belgian netting just twice all season. But Connor Wickham has spent the last few months injured and Alexander Sorloth (below), despite some bright showings, has not scored since arriving from FC Midtjylland in January.

So reports in Brabants Dagblad that one of the most lethal strikers in Dutch football was present to watch Crystal Palace play Watford at Vicarage Road last week is certainly intriguing. Typically, the game finished goalless.

26-year-old Sol has been in prolific form in his second season at Willem II. The Spaniard has 16 goals in 30 starts, a tally only bettered by AZ Alkmaar talisman Alireza Jahanbakhsh in the whole of the Eredivisie in 2017/18.

The former Villarreal man is a natural-born goalscorer blessed with elusive movement, smart finishing and the ability to pop up at exactly the right time when required. These are the sort of attributes Crystal Palace have been missing all season.

It is uncertain whether or not Sol is actually a target for Crystal Palace this summer, but the fact he watched Roy Hodgson’s side live should give the fans some hope.
