It is all change in the goalkeeping department at Rangers.
Ibrox legend Allan McGregor is set to make an emotional return on a free transfer from Hull City, according to the Scottish Sun, with the 36-year-old about to undergo a medical and sign a contract within the next 24 hours.
And the report adds that this will more than likely see current number one Wes Foderingham depart. The Englishman has been Rangers’ first choice for the last two years but McGregor is not moving to Ibrox to sit on the bench.
Interestingly, Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be monitoring Foderingham’s situation, which, in a strange twist of fate, could have ramifications across Glasgow at Celtic.
Because Rangers' Old Firm rivals are also on the lookout for a new goalkeeper. And, according to The Sun, Celtic are big fans of Sheffield Wednesday’s 33-year-old Republic of Ireland international Kieren Westwood.
Westwood has just one year left on his contract and The Owls seem prepared to sell. In Foderingham, they have found a ready-made replacement capable of taking his place between the sticks at Hillsborough.
So there is a distinct possibility that Foderingham’s departure from Rangers could push Westwood towards Celtic.
There could be two new number ones at the Old Firm next season.
