Ryan Yates has shone since leaving Championship giants Nottingham Forest for a loan spell at League One Scunthorpe United in January.

Scunthorpe United fans would like nothing more than to sign Ryan Yates on a permanent deal from Nottingham Forest in the summer.

Alongside fellow loanee Ivan Toney, Yates has made a huge impact at Glanford Park since arriving in January and scored his second goal for the club in the 1-0 win against Walsall on Saturday with a diving header that typified the 20-year-old’s bravery and commitment to the cause.

The combative midfielder has matured immensely during just three months as a Scunthorpe player and has earned plenty of praise from coaches and fans alike.

So surely Yates has, or at least deserves, a future at Nottingham Forest.

The Lincoln-born youngster is yet to make his debut for the Championship side having spent the last two seasons out on loan at Barrow, Shrewsbury, Notts County and now Scunthorpe.

But Yates could hardly be doing more to send a message to Forest boss Aitor Karanka. There could be a space opening up in the side for the youngster next season with Jack Colback only on loan from Newcastle United and David Vaughan’s contract set to expire (below).

And if the reaction of Scunthorpe fans to Yates’ display against Walsall is anything to go by, he should be banging on the door for the place in the first-team at the City Ground.
