The Wales international could sign up for a fifth season at Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace supporters are reacting on Twitter to reports that goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey is 'poised to sign' a new deal at Selhurst Park
The claim - which first appeared in the Daily Mirror (April 23rd, page 49) - follows an impressive turnaround for Hennessey, who looked at one stage as though he would be leaving Palace at the end of his contract this summer, having lost his place to veteran rival Julian Speroni.
But an extended stay could now be in the offing, despite the planned arrival of long-term target Vicente Guaita.
And after four years at Palace, Eagles fans are well-qualified to comment on the Welshman's ability - although they appear to be split down the middle.
Here's what they're saying...
Imagine thinking Hennessey signing a contract is bad news. If you'd genuinely rather have Speroni or Cavalieri as back-up for Guaita I pity you. #CPFC— Nick (@Nick_CPFC) 23 April 2018
Wayne has been pretty immense the last 8 or so games. He’s proved himself to be more than good enough so we should get behind him.— Mapache (@letsdancemofos) 24 April 2018
I’ll be pleased to see him say. Ignore the bollocks written by some Palace ‘fans’ Wayne. Great performance at Watford.— Paul (@cpfcchw) 23 April 2018
Good.— JØE (@J1_CPFC) 23 April 2018
If you don't want Hennessey to sign a new contract you must be basing your opinion on what he was like 2 seasons ago. Since Margetson & now Kiely, Wayne has been as solid as any keeper in the bottom half of the table. He'll be a very reliable 2nd choice next season. #CPFC pic.twitter.com/ENmlCnGYN3— Cabaye Loves Hugs (@CabayeLovesHugs) 23 April 2018
He'll be competing for No 1 spot. Hugely improved.— Robbie Scotcher (@RobbieScotcher) 24 April 2018
It's the defense in front of him that's changed— CPFC in the states (@holmesdaleUSA) 24 April 2018
Not denying that he has got better but to suggest that he is suddenly a good goalkeeper when for 2 years he has cost us time and time again is baffling . All of these faults should have been ironed out years ago . If your judgement is poor it won't get magically better— Freeagentpudders (@mann_sb) 24 April 2018
If you believe he’s been as good as you say he has, then surely he deserves to be a first choice keeper. Therefore it would be more rewarding to him to be released and let him have his pick of any club he wants while picking up a hefty signing-on bonus— Phil (@PhilJW103) 25 April 2018
purple patch in a poor career. Won't last.— Dan (@danofthesouth_) 24 April 2018
Wayne Hennessey’s going to be our Wenger. Only 18 more years #CPFC— David Northcott (@Northyy001) 23 April 2018
I hate him— Ian CPFCarlow (@IanCarlow) 24 April 2018
No no no please God NO— Colin Medcalf (@CPFCMeds) 23 April 2018
Worst keeper, bar Chris Day, in last 40 years. Woeful and we must have someone better than him if we are to progress. Hate to think how many points he has cost us this season.— WARREN GUEST (@WARRENG39) 23 April 2018
Crystal Palace could have another incentive - besides form - to keep Hennessey on board, amid reports linking Atletico Madrid with a move for Guaita, despite his agreement with the Eagles (Diario AS).
Does Hennessey deserve a new Palace contract?
