The Manchester United owned goalkeeper is said to feature on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar after an impressive 15 months at Aston Villa.

Aston Villa loanee Sam Johnstone is on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar, according to the Sun.

It is claimed that goalkeeper Johnstone is wanted by Tottenham as back up to Hugo Lloris, with Michel Vorm’s contract expiring this summer.

And the report adds the 25-year-old ‘will be available on a free transfer’ – although that contradicts previous claims, also from the Sun, that current employers Manchester United have triggered a clause to keep him at Old Trafford until 2019.

Johnstone has excelled since signing for Aston Villa in January of last year, and hinted in March that he would be happy to remain at Villa Park next season.

But while the Villans could surely offer him a greater chance of regular football, failure to gain promotion this season could scupper their plans, with the Lancastrian reportedly valued at £6.5 million by United.

And a move to Tottenham could appeal to Johnstone, with Lloris not getting any younger and experiencing a dip in form of late.

Would the Aston Villa loanee be a good addition for Tottenham Hotspur?
