Tottenham Hotspur reportedly missed out on goalkeeper Pau Lopez.

Tottenham Hotspur need to bring in new signings this summer, and a goalkeeper may be high on Mauricio Pochettino’s wish list as the club move into their new stadium.

Hugo Lloris has been a mainstay for Spurs since his 2012 move from Lyon, but the Frenchman hasn’t been enjoying his best season as a Tottenham player.

The 31-year-old has made a number of errors of late, including in Saturday’s 2-1 win at Stoke City, as his scuffed clearance handed Mame Biram Diouf an open goal to equalise.

That means that Tottenham may be smart to consider other goalkeepers this summer, especially as veteran Michel Vorm is out of contract this summer, and Paulo Gazzaniga appears to just be third choice.

It already seems that Pochettino has been looking to sign another goalkeeper, as ABC Sevilla recently reported that Pau Lopez rejected a move back to Tottenham in order to pen a deal with Real Betis.

Espanyol goalkeeper Lopez, 23, spent last season on loan at Tottenham, but didn’t make a single appearance before returning to Espanyol, and he has starred this season, becoming one of the top goalkeepers in Spain.

Tottenham’s plan may have been to sign Lopez on a free transfer when his Espanyol deal ended, handing Pochettino another reunion with his former Espanyol goalkeeper, but Betis have swooped in to crush those hopes.

At 23 and with impressive performances behind him in Spain, Lopez could have returned to Spurs to replace Vorm as second choice before pushing to replace Lloris in the long-term, without Spurs having to spend a penny – but they have missed out on what could have been an ideal signing for their current goalkeeping situation.
