Liverpool coach Steven Gerrard has been linked with the Glasgow Rangers job.

Steven Gerrard of BT Sport looks on during the Emirates FA Cup Final between Arsenal and Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on May 27, 2017 in London, England.

Rangers fans are not getting swept away by speculation linking Steven Gerrard with the manager’s job.

The Scottish Sun reported yesterday how odds on Gerrard landing the role in the summer had been ‘slashed’ from 25/1 to 8/1.

Gerrard is currently managing Liverpool’s under-18s and is enjoying some success with a hugely talented crop of players led by England under-17 World Cup winner Rhian Brewster.

The Rangers job is another kettle of fish altogether, with experienced managers Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha left floundering in the hotseat.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Rangers already have one relative novice in charge, having recently promoted under-20s coach Graeme Murty.

He is under pressure after the recent 4-0 loss to Celtic, and Rangers may well be reticent to hand the Ibrox reins to another inexperienced coach.

Gerrard has the name value which would get the whole football world talking, but it would be a big risk to give him the job, and Rangers might not want to take another gamble after hitting and missing so wildly with Caixinha.

Rangers fans are not getting too carried away, taking to social media to express their doubts…
