The Shrewsbury Town midfielder has been linked with moves to Norwich City, Leeds United and Sheffield United.
Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has warned that any club wanting to sign Jon Nolan will need ‘lots of financial clout behind them’, after the midfielder was linked with Championship trio Norwich City, Leeds United and Sheffield United.
According to the Daily Mirror (March 19th, page 47), Norwich lead the chase for Nolan – which Leeds and Sheffield United ‘will join’.
Nolan has kickstarted his career at Shrewsbury – who are League One‘s surprise package this season – having been let go by Everton at the start of the decade.
The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and created another six from the centre of the park, in what is his first season at New Meadow since signing from Chesterfield on a three-year contract.
And Hurst is aware of the interest being shown in the player. “I know people have been to watch his games,” he told the Shropshire Star. “I’m sure there are a few (players) making clubs think about next season.
“A couple of clubs I’ve seen (linked) have certainly got lots of financial clout behind them and they’d need it – that’s all I would say.
“It’d be a win-win situation. But as we’ve said before, we don’t need to sell. There is certainly nothing that’s been put on the table that I’m aware of.
“When I came in, it was something myself and the chairman spoke about. Moving forward we were both of the opinion there was no valuable assets on the playing side.
“In our recruitment we looked at age and whether there was development. We’ve had quite a lot step up and now teams would be interested.
“Whether or not they’d want to shell out as much as it would cost to get them out is another thing. It’s a nice position for the football club to be in.”
Prior to joining Shrewsbury, Nolan had spells at Stockport County, Lincoln City and Grimsby Town, where he first played under Hurst, whose new side are second in the standings.
And promotion for the Shrews could make the Huyton-born player an even costlier signing for Norwich, Leeds or Sheffield United.
