Garry Monk was keen to lure Pablo Hernandez to Birmingham City, but it seems the Spaniard is set to stay at Elland Road.

Leeds United fans can breathe a little easier now.
After weeks of speculation, and even links with Garry Monk’s Birmingham City, Leeds have finally opened talks with the veteran play-maker Pablo Hernandez over a new contract at Elland Road, according to the Daily Mail.
The 32-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and there had been no movement on a new contract; a fact that was worrying supporters who have marvelled at Hernandez’s class and typically Spanish vision over the last two seasons.

Hernandez has arguably been the best of a largely bad bunch this season and it would have made absolutely no sense for a struggling Leeds side lacking a cutting edge to get rid, even if the former Valencia and Swansea City man cannot play every game these days.
And, fortunately, the Mail claims that Hernandez is more than keen to stay at Leeds beyond this season, which should in theory make the agreement little more than a formality.

Amid the dreadful run of form on the pitch, and the mess made of recruitment off it, Hernandez remaining at Elland Road would be a rare note of positivity in a difficult couple of months, so no wonder the supporters are pleased.
