If The Mirror is to be believed, Aston Villa have sent scouts to watch Brad Jones in action for Feyenoord, but surely they are showing an interest in the experienced Aussie shot-stopper one year too late.
Jones was arguably the best goalkeeper in Holland last season, providing the platform for Feyenoord’s first Eredivisie title since 1999 as they finished a point clear of Ajax and conceded just 25 goals in 34 games.
This season, however, the former Liverpool glovesman has been a shadow of his 2017 vintage. Feyenoord have already let in 33 goals in 28 games this time around and, with six games remaining this season, they are a whopping 23 points adrift of leaders PSV.
Quite simply, Jones is making mistakes that were just not part of his game in the previous campaign.
So you can perhaps understand why Aston Villa fans are not too happy about reports that the veteran shot-stopper has been lined up for a move to the Midlands at the end of the season.
As it stands, Sam Johnstone is only on loan at Villa Park from Manchester United with a permanent deal far from certain.
But it seems that the claret and blue faithful would rather Steve Bruce put his faith in Jed Steer or the youngster Matija Sarkic rather than a 35-year-old whose form has dipped alarmingly in the space of 12 months.
He is terrible. Not good enough for this league never mind the PL if we did go up.— Chez Avfc (@AvfcUTV1) March 18, 2018
We have Johnstone hopefully signing permemantly and Steer with Sarkic coming through. Do we need another keeper?— DJM99 (@xDJM99x) March 18, 2018
He is useless, absolutely useless. Hope this is a joke!!— Rory Gilsenan (@rorygils6) March 18, 2018

Brad Jones is useless— Billy Moloney (@moloneybilly) March 18, 2018
If Johnstone leaves, I would prefer Steer with Sarkic as backup.— Will (@keese09) March 18, 2018
Ffs why he’s absolutely pony— DEETEEPEE (@Danielp39528504) March 19, 2018
They've sent them one year late. He was twice the keeper last year.— Tom (@TMEJGM) March 19, 2018
