Sheffield Wednesday fans have not been too impressed with Jordan Rhodes thus far.

According to a poll taken on social networking site Twitter, 80 per cent of the Sheffield Wednesday fans who voted believe the club should look to sell mis-firing striker Jordan Rhodes this summer.

The former Huddersfield Town man joined the Owls from Middlesbrough on an initial loan deal back in February 2017, before making his move to Hillsborough permanent for around £10 million (Sky Sports).

Many felt the deal was a bit desperate at the time, what with Wednesday already boasting a range of forward options such as Gary Hooper, Fernando Forestieri, Steven Fletcher, Atdhe Nuhiu and Lucas Joao.

But having said that, Rhodes arrived with a prolific goal-scoring record at previous clubs Huddersfield and Blackburn Rovers, scoring more than 20 goals in three successive Championship campaigns for the latter.

Then-Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal may have considered the 28-year-old as the final piece of the promotion jigsaw and saw his huge fee as a small drop in the ocean compared to the Premier League’s millions.

Unfortunately for the Owls, though, Rhodes just has not got going at Hillsborough, scoring only four goals in 28 games; so far, a whopping figure of £2.5 million for every time he has found the net in the league.

With new manager Jos Luhukay likely to want to make changes to his under-performing squad this summer, the club will likely have to sell first to raise funds and importantly lower the wage bill.

The Owls no doubt have several relatively high earners on their books who are providing little output, and Rhodes will probably fall into that category, making him a potential option to move on.

As shown by the poll results, 80 per cent of those Wednesday fans who voted were in favour of selling the striker this summer even if it means taking an expected loss on him.

With the market continuing to throw up big transfer fees, though, with a little luck Wednesday may be able to find a club willing to gamble on the Scotland international rediscovering his once lethal goal-scoring touch.
