Newcastle fans have been lauding Freddie Woodman on Twitter after the young goalkeeper made himself Aberdeen's hero during their Scottish Cup quarter-final tie with Kilmarnock on Tuesday with three penalty saves.
Woodman has not had the easiest time since moving to the Dons on loan during the January transfer window, having kept just two clean sheets in his first seven appearances for Derek McInnes' men. His performances have also attracted some criticism from the Aberdeen fans.
However, he has changed opinions very quickly by proving to be their saviour as their cup tie with Killie went to spot-kicks after finishing 1-1 after extra-time.
Woodman - who famously saved a penalty in the U20 World Cup final last year when England were 1-0 up - came back to haunt the side he spent some of last season on loan with as he saved three of their spot-kicks to help the Dons set up a semi-final with Motherwell where the winner will go on to play one of the Old Firm for the trophy.
His heroics have not escaped the attention of the Newcastle fans, with some looking forward to seeing the 21-year-old back in Rafa Benitez's ranks next season and potentially pushing for the number one spot.
Martin Dubravka's form since arriving on loan means that Woodman has not exactly been missed so far, but the supporters are still looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the academy graduate after his latest display.
Here is what some of the Newcastle fans made of his contribution...
Woodman saves 3 pens to get Aberdeen in the semis. Surely next season he will have that no1 jersey.— scurf (@scurf9) March 14, 2018
Aberdeen going through on pens last night. Well done to Freddie Woodman. Sounds like he is doing well.— hally180 (@pckrc) March 14, 2018

Freddie Woodman should be either second choice, or loaned to a promotion chasing Championship team as a minimum next season. We shouldn't let him go like we did with Forster. #nufc— Andrew McVittie (@Andrew_McVittie) March 13, 2018
Adam Armstrong back doing what he does best, scoring goals. And now Freddie Woodman doing what he does best, saving penalties. Well he has saved penalties in Euro & World Cup finals for England to win. #NUFC the future looks bright!! https://t.co/l0EP1ye3a9— Brian Glaister (@BGlaister1) March 13, 2018
