Alfredo Morelos will still be kicking himself today after his missed chance against Celtic on Sunday.
The Scottish Premiership top scorer has developed quite the reputation in Scotland as a useful striker that misses a worrying amount of simple chances.
There were a few occasions on Saturday that Morelos should have put away. One clear one-on-one situation with Scott Bain comes to mind, when the Colombian struck the ball directly into the Celtic 'keeper allowing the debutante to pull off a fine save.
His worst miss of the match, however, came when Celtic were a man down and the game looked beyond them. Morelos was handed the chance to put his side ahead on a plate, three yards out with no goalkeeper to beat, but unfortunately for the 21-year-old, he fired into the post, allowing Bain to collect the rebound and diffuse the danger.
Moments later, the 10-men of Celtic netted the eventual match winner.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer at 15:00 BST, 12 March 2018, Alan Rough explained that, for a player who has been linked with a transfer fee in the region of £9million, you simply cannot be missing such chances.
As a striker, you job is to put those opportunities away, not least when there is an open goal and you are an arms reach away from the goal line.
Morelos may score a lot of goals but, as many pundits have pointed out, he could score a whole lot more if he put half of his easier chances away.
"It just gets back to Dembele who I said, for me didn't do very much, but given a chance he scored the goal.
"If you're saying Morelos is a £9million player, £9million players don't miss these chances."
Morelos recently signed a new deal with Rangers that will see the Colombian remain at Rangers until 2021. The youngster may win the SPFL Golden Boot but, should be be the man to fire Rangers back into European competition or even towards some silverware domestically, he will need to develop some composure when it comes to putting away easy chances like that.
