Report: Arsenal line up summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen ace Bernd Leno

Germany Manager

Arsenal are keeping tabs on the Bayern Leverkusen stopper, according to reports in Germany.

Bernd Leno of Germany looks on prior to the FIFA Confederations Cup Russia 2017 Group B match between Australia and Germany at Fisht Olympic Stadium on June 19, 2017 in Sochi, Russia.

According to German publication Bild, Arsenal are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno in the summer.

The goalkeeping position is one that is a huge area of concern for the Gunners, with Petr Cech and David Ospina both thought to be not quite good enough at the very highest level anymore.

Bild claim that Arsene Wenger sees Leno, 26, as the ideal replacement for Cech, and they go on to say that the German has a £22 million release clause inserted into his current contract with the Bundesliga side.

A good signing for Arsenal?

Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Leno cuts an imposing figure, and possesses the ability to command his penalty area with authority.

The Germany international is also extremely agile, and is a competent shot-stopper.

At just 26, Leno is not yet at his peak for a goalkeeper, and he will surely improve with the more experience he clocks up.

In saying that, the German has already made 352 senior club appearances, so he is hardly wet behind the ears.

For the price of just £22 million, signing Leno would be a real coup for the Gunners, and could be a signing of real significance for their future.
