Jean Eudes Aholou has been impressive for Strasbourg since their return to Ligue 1 and is wanted by Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Strasbourg have been pretty impressive on their return to the top tier of French football this season and the form of Jean Eudes Aholou has played a major part.

The Ivorian defensive midfielder has been excellent in Ligue 1 this season, even scoring five goals in 27 games from the centre of the park. It is fair to say his first year as a Strasbourg player, after signing from Orleans in January 2017, has been a good one.

French publication Le 10 Foot claim that Aholou’s performances have earned him the admiration of clubs from outside of Ligue 1 – one of those being Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Seagulls, like Strasbourg, were promoted to the top flight last season and have more than held their own so far. In fact, Chris Hughton’s side have been excellent at times since the turn of the year, combining exciting attacking football with a backs-against-the-wall mentality, and moved four points clear of the drop zone with a 2-1 win against Arsenal on Sunday.

Defensive midfield, however, is one position where Brighton are a little light as there is not a huge amount of competition for the consistent Dale Stephens.

This may be why Brighton, who have been looking at a number of France-based players of late, have turned their attention to Aholou.

It is uncertain how much he would cost but, considering that Brighton have shown a willingness to spend and recently shattered their transfer record with the £14 million addition of Jurgen Locadia from PSV, he will not be out of their price range.
