Tottenham are rivalling Liverpool to sign Jonathan Tah.

Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a summer transfer for Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Jonathan Tah, according to The Mirror.

But they may not have it all their own way.

Tah has reportedly been on Liverpool’s radar since 2016, with The Mirror reporting at the time that Jurgen Klopp had identified him as a solution to their defensive problems.

The Reds’ failure to move has so far been bemusing, and if Tottenham swoop in for him now then Liverpool will only have themselves to blame.

The German international centre-back is regarded as his country’s best young defender and is expected to feature at the World Cup this summer.

Tah is just 22-years-old and featured in the Champions League for Leverkusen against Tottenham last season.

Spurs would only move for Tah if they are unable to keep Toby Alderweireld, whose contract has just one year left to run.

Liverpool moved to sign Virgil van Dijk in January but still have money available from selling Coutinho to Barcelona.

Who will partner Van Dijk long-term at Liverpool is still open to debate but if they sign Tah, that spot will be locked down for th foreseeable future.

Tottenham present a major threat to this being possible, and the Reds could end up kicking themselves for not moving for Tah earlier.
