Nottingham Forest’s Barrie McKay has fallen out of favour under Aitor Karanka.
According to an online poll conducted on Twitter, 63% of Nottingham Forest fans participating have voted in favour of selling forward Barrie McKay this coming summer.
The 23-year-old was signed from Glasgow Rangers last summer by former Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton in a deal worth around £500,000, as reported by the BBC.
At the time many felt Forest had struck a bargain, what with the market being blown out of proportion and fellow Championship sides splashing north of £6 million on one single attacking player.
McKay had little experience of playing south of the border, yet he took to the demands of the Championship well and looked very much at home in Forest’s starting XI.
The former Rangers man has featured in 24 Championship games this term, scoring five goals and recording an impressive seven assists – contributing to one goal every two games which ranks among the league’s best.
The departure of Warburton and the subsequent arrival of Aitor Karanka, however, has seen McKay fall out of contention at the City Ground, and he was left out of the 18 altogether in the recent 5-2 win over Queens Park Rangers.
Karanka brought in up to seven new players during the January transfer window, and with the academy products Matty Cash and Ben Osborne impressing, McKay has now been left on the peripherals.
When posed the question on whether Forest should look to sell him this summer, a rather surprising 63% of the Forest fans who responded via social media site Twitter voted in favour of letting him go.
Considering how much he was signed for, selling McKay this summer would almost certainly bring Forest a tidy profit on the player and could even see them make around a 500% return on their original investment.
