Signing Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus would be a massive risk for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Borussia Dortmund forward.

Mauricio Pochettino manager

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to strengthen his squad further still in the summer, as he looks to usher in a new era of success at the club.

The Argentine has worked wonders since being handed the reigns at Spurs in May 2014, but there are still questions marks as to whether he has built a squad capable of mounting a sustained challenge for major honours on all fronts.

According to the Mirror, one particular player on Pochettino's radar is Borussia Dortmund ace Marco Reus.

The Germany international possesses undoubted talent, but his well-documented injury problems will surely be a cause for concern for Tottenham, especially with the high-octane pressing philosophy deployed by Pochettino, both during games and in training.

Dortmund's striker Marco Reus reacts during the German first division Bundesliga football match between 1 FC Cologne and Borussia Dortmund in Cologne western Germany, on December 10, 2016.

Reus, 28, has started just 61 Bundesliga games out of a possible 126 since the start of the 2014/15 campaign, and considering the fact that he is set to turn 29 in May, surely his injury problems will only get worse, as he approaches the twilight of his career.

The Dortmund ace's game has always been based on blistering pace, and explosive movement - two attributes that he would surely have lost after he sustained a ruptured cruciate ligament injury last summer.

He is valued at around £25.2 million, according to Transfer Markt, and that price obviously represents the risk involved in signing him, because if he wasn't injury prone, he would be worth far more.

Reus' situation is similar to Ilkay Gundogan's when he moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of just £20 million.

The Germany international has gone on to be a success at the Etihad, and is now looking like a snip for that price.

Reus could of course emulate the success of his countryman, and go on to be a hit in north London, but Spurs should certainly be wary, nevertheless.
