Gennaro Gatusso has done a sensational job in charge of Serie A giants AC Milan and fans of Scottish Premiership heavyweights Rangers are impressed.

AC Milan took an almighty risk appointing Gennaro Gattuso as the club’s permanent manager in late November.

After spending over £200 million in a remarkable recruitment drive over the summer, a new-look Milan side featuring Andre Silva, Franck Kessie and Leonardo Bonucci were expected to awake from their slumber and battle at the top of Serie A like the good old days.

But after a disastrous start to the season which had them closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table, Milan dispensed with Vincenzo Montella and handed the reigns to their legendary former midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

Now, the raging Italian has not exactly had a stellar managerial career. His Pisa side were relegated from Serie B last season despite, bizarrely, boasting the league’s best defensive record.

But it is impossible to downplay just how impressive Milan have become in four months under Gattuso’s stewardship. A 2-0 win at Roma, Milan’s first victory at the Stadio Olimpico in seven years, shows how far they have come with Champions League qualification now looking improbable rather than impossible.

Though it is not just Milan fans who have been impressed by Gattuso’s efforts.

Rangers appointed the popular Graeme Murty on a contract until the end of this season and, despite vast improvements from the reign of Pedro Caixinha, some supporters would love to see their one-time fans’ favourite prowling the Ibrox touchline.

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and St Johnstone at Ibrox Stadium on December 16, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.
