West Ham United will make a decision on the future of David Moyes in the summer.

David Moyes, Manager of West Ham United looks on prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool and West Ham United at Anfield on February 24, 2018 in Liverpool, England.

West Ham have turned a corner under the Scot and given themselves real hope of survival despite languishing in the relegation zone on just nine points when he took over in November.

The Hammers are not out of the woods yet, though, in an increasingly congested Premier League dogfight.

Supporters are deeply unhappy with the club’s lack of progress since their much-heralded move from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

A protest march against co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold and their vice-chairman Karren Brady is planned next weekend over broken promises regarding the stadium move and transfer spending.

That prompted Sullivan to take to the club’s official website last month to directly appeal to supporters for another chance to get things right.

That included ripping up the club’s failing recruitment process.

And now former Premier League star Steven Pienaar – who played under Moyes at Everton and Sunderland – has fired a stark warning to the owners in an interview with the Daily Mail, telling them to keep Moyes and give him full control if they want to be successful.

“This season has been all about surviving for David and I wouldn’t have backed West Ham to do that the way they started the season,” Pienaar told the Daily Mail.

“But he has picked up good results and the signs are they can build for the future as long as the club allows him control to do things his way.

“David has his moments as a man-manager, he can lose it, but he is a straight talker. He is honest with you and if you work for him, he’ll work for you.

“‘We played good attacking football at Everton and I can see similarities with West Ham. It’s a good club but the owners have to let him build it his way. Then they can challenge at the right end of the table.”

A lot will hinge on West Ham’s survival this season as to whether Moyes stays on.

If he does Sullivan and Gold should heed his advice.
