Rangers have managed to keep star striker Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers rejected a last-gasp bid of £9.5million plus add-ons from Beijing Renhe for striker Alfredo Morelos on Wednesday.

The Gers snapped up Morelos in a bargain deal from HJK Helsinki last summer, and is one of the few success stories from Pedro Caixinha’s time as Rangers boss having starred this term.

Morelos, 21, has hit 17 goals in 33 games for Rangers this season, quickly becoming a fan favourite at Ibrox, and his goalscoring exploits have triggered major interest in the Colombian’s signature.

Chinese side Beijing Renhe have pursued Morelos relentlessly in 2018, having four bids rejected before also allegedly failing with a £9.5million bid – plus add-ons – for the striker on Wednesday as the Chinese transfer deadline passed.

Morelos stays – for now

Beijing Renhe instead brought in Benjamin Moukandjo to boost their attack on Wednesday, moving on from Morelos for now – but Rangers may face more problems this summer.

If Morelos continues to score goals, then more and more clubs will attempt to secure his signature, and having snubbed a £9.5million bid, eight-figure bids appear to be a matter of time.

Rangers may be more open to selling Morelos in the summer when they have more time to find a replacement, with the striker no doubt a little tempted by the £30,000-a-week wages on offer in China.

The Daily Record did recently report that Rangers are hoping to tie Morelos down to a new contract, and they certainly need to do it before the summer transfer window, or face a battle to keep hold of him – again.
