The Hammers were one of many teams linked with the Ghanaian in 2015.
West Ham United defender Reece Oxford is looking like a target for many clubs in the summer, including a surprise interest from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
It was reported by the Telegraph that Los Colchoneros are keen on signing the player, who has seen his career stall at the London Stadium despite his obvious talent.
He is currently out on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach, who failed in an £8 million bid for the player in January – as the same report from the Telegraph describes.
West Ham are said to want a fee nearer to £12 million for the player, but they should also be asking Atletico for a player as part of any deal, a player they tried to sign in 2015.
The player in question is talented Ghanaian attacker Bernard Mensah.
The 23-year-old attacking midfielder was linked with West Ham back in 2015. According to a report from the Mirror the Hammers were set to battle Juventus for the the player who was on fire for Portuguese side Vitoria Guimares at the time.
In the end both teams missed out, along with a long list of big clubs, as Mensah headed to Atletico.
Since then he has not managed to establish himself in the Atletico first-team and spent time on loan with Getafe, back at Vitoria and is currently plying his trade at Kasimpasa in the Turkish Super Lig.
If West Ham are going to lose one top talent then they would be wise to ensure another one is arriving as well. Making sure Mensah is part of any Oxford to Atletico agreement could be the perfect solution.
