West Ham United were beaten 4-1 by Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.

Frank Lampard has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 24th February, that he felt West Ham United shouldn’t have started with both Manuel Lanzini and Joao Mario against Liverpool.

The creative midfielders were both selected to start at Anfield, but West Ham struggled to impose themselves on the game.

In the end, Liverpool ran out 4-1 winners in the contest, as Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up a comfortable three points.

And Lampard felt that David Moyes made a mistake by not picking a more defensive-minded starting line-up.

Lampard said: “I understand what Moyes is saying, first half they were in the game, but I think they had a problem tactically playing Mario and Lanzini. They are similar players and want the ball to feet. In terms of playing those two at Liverpool, maybe they shouldn’t have done.”

Moyes has tended to keep men behind the ball when playing against the Champions League chasing sides when at West Ham and he has previously had positive results.

The Hammers have picked up points against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, but they were no match for Liverpool.

Even though Michail Antonio did score, West Ham were outplayed for much of the contest.

Moyes’ side are now in 13th place in the Premier League table, just three points above the drop zone.
