Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the last eight of the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday with a penalty shoot-out win over Monaco after a 1-1 draw.

Keanan Bennetts’ brilliant goal received plenty of plaudits, but goalkeeper Brandon Austin was undoubtedly the hero.

A frantic end to the match saw chances at both ends and Monaco could have gone through in normal time had the 19-year-old not made a string of stunning saves.

Austin denied the French side time and time again, making a couple of particularly smart stops in one-on-one situations.

And better was to come when the game went to penalties, with Austin’s strong right-armed save from Franco Antonucci.

Unsurprisingly, the watching Spurs fans were delighted to see a young player delivering at a key moment against talented opposition…

Tottenham supporters will now hope Austin can perform again in another home tie in the last eight.

With Michel Vorm out of contract at the end of the season, Mauricio Pochettino could no doubt benefit from a young goalkeeper making the step up.

Austin still has some way to go, but starring against the best young players in Europe can do his chances no harm.
