Birmingham City fans have spoken out regarding manager Steve Cotterill in the wake of their humiliating 5-0 defeat against Brentford last night.
The Blues’ hangover from their derby defeat against Aston Villa continues to plague the latter stages of their season, with this loss coming just a few days after they were beaten by Millwall at St Andrew’s.
Birmingham goalkeeper David Stockdale was one of the many who spoke out on Twitter, as he apologised to supporters for what many deemed to be an incredibly poor performance. Most of the criticisms, however, were aimed towards Steve Cotterill as his failure to recover from the Villa Park loss has frustrated loyal Blues supporters.
The loss last night means that Birmingham are now just a single point above the bottom three, with Burton Albion showing signs of life in a rare victory against Barnsley.
Blues supporters have been in this position before, but this time around they really do have their backs against the wall, with Cotterill having seemingly gone from hero to zero in the space of just a few short weeks.
His overall mentality towards the job is something that has been pinpointed as a key problem, while his team selection against Brentford was also something that rubbed the St Andrew’s faithful up the wrong way.
Ahead of two key fixtures against Barnsley and Nottingham Forest, we’ve compiled a selection of reactions from Birmingham City fans after what many consider to be their worst result of the season so far.
'Sorry, I'm leaving' would've been sufficient Steve.— Jo (@joaemp) February 20, 2018
“From the touchline it doesn’t matter what you do...” erm....yes Steve, yes it does. Believe it or not, as a manager, what you do on the touchline is actually rather important & it does matter which formations / players you play. Apologies for stating the obvious— Mr Blue Sky (@mrbluesky1875) February 20, 2018
Sounds like excuses for players making sloppy mistakes. Words fail me. Need some motivation, team work , passion drive and ambition from somewhere.... any where— J. E .R. (@julibail) February 20, 2018
So it’s all the players fault & nothing he could do regarding tactics or team selections. What a bloke— Michael Jabbari (@mike1983jabbari) February 21, 2018
By playing N’Doye behind the striker is Cotterill trying to wind us fans up or does he genuinely think that he can play there?! #BCFC— Ahmed Malik (@MalikBirmingham) February 21, 2018
Get real guys, Cotterill is going nowhere! The reason why....is blues have no money to pay him off, they’ve already paid one off so despite what I and everyone else wants..I can’t see it happening! #BCFC #KRO— sarah southall (@SarahSassy1967) February 21, 2018
Simply put, Cotterill is out of his depth, he had no answer last night. Not just his ludicrous starting line up but his substitutions. He chops and changes from match to match, he’s desperate! He’s worse than Zola and another that won’t walk #bcfc— Andy Bavington (@oftenpartizan) February 21, 2018
Whether you like or loathe Cotterill, I can't buy this 'the players don't want to play for him' nonsense. How many managers will they refuse to play for? Zola, Redknapp and now Cotterill. #BCFC— Rob Wildey (@Wildey1875) February 21, 2018
