Bordeaux playmaker Malcom has told UOL Esporte in his native Brazil that he has been promised a summer move amid recent links with Tottenham Hotspur.
Malcom, 20, has become a star for Bordeaux since his January 2016 move from Corinthians, having hit eight goals and six assists in 24 Ligue 1 games this season.
The attacking midfielder, who has mostly played out wide for Bordeaux, is now one of the top young talents in Europe, and will be hoping to knock on the door for a call-up to the Brazil squad for this summer's World Cup.
Malcom is now settling into the second half of the season, cracking on with Bordeaux having failed to push through a January move away from the club despite strong interest in his signature.
Bordeaux and new manager Gus Poyet stood firm and ensured that Malcom stayed with the club, but it seems that a summer move is now expected after comments made by the Brazilian talent.
Malcom has told UOL Esporte that he wanted to leave Bordeaux in January, but he remains thankful to the club for their faith in him, and he gave is word that he will continue with full commitment until the end of the season.
Malcom added that he has been promised that he can leave this summer, and he will pick his destination, with Bordeaux giving him free reign to choose his next team after blocking him from leaving in January.
“I already said that I would have liked to leave this winter to meet new challenges. But I must also remember that Bordeaux helped me a lot,” said Malcom. “I gave my word to Bordeaux that I will continue [with the club] to be able to have more time to choose my future club. These next three or four months will make a big difference.”
“Yes, there was a promise that I will be negotiating in June. I will choose the team, and Bordeaux will let me go," he added.
Whilst Spurs were keen last month, they did sign a Brazilian winger from a French club, landing Lucas Moura from Paris Saint-Germain, and that may just mean that Mauricio Pochettino is no longer quite so keen on pursuing a deal for Malcom.
With Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min and Erik Lamela already at the club, it's hard to see where Malcom fits in now Moura has signed, and that may just give Arsenal a chance to swoop in this summer.
