New contract for James Collins?

Collins is in his second spell at West Ham at the moment, having rejoined the London club from Aston Villa in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £2.5 million.

According to, the Welshman is out of contract at the Hammers at the end of the season.

Although Collins is 34 years of age, the former Villa defender is playing well at the moment and remains an important player in David Moyes’s West Ham side.

True, West Ham need someone younger at the back for long-term success, but Collins's experience will be vital for the London club.

Moreover, the Hammers could do with an experienced and mature footballer who can step in during big games at the back for one more season.
