Sean Clare was handed his first Sheffield Wednesday start as the Owls beat Derby County 2-0 at Hillsborough on Tuesday - putting an end to the recent rumours about his future.

Clare - who had made just one cameo appearance since returning from a loan spell at Gillingham in January - was omitted from Wednesday Under-23s' defeat at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday, prompting some to speculate that he - like teammate George Hirst - had been banished by the Owls as punishment for his failure to sign a new contract.

That theory was quickly dispelled, however, as Clare helped to secure Jos Luhukay's first league win as Sheffield Wednesday manager on an impressive full debut.
