Rangers fans calling to see more of James Tavernier as captain

The right-back has been terrific for Rangers this season and was backed by manager Graeme Murty to lead the team last weekend against Ayr United.

Rangers right-back James Tavernier, 26, has been a key figure around Ibrox since arriving in Glasgow from Wigan Athletic in Summer 2015. 

At the time, Tavernier had to settle for Scottish Championship football, but two seasons on and the former Newcastle United full-back is enjoying a successful second year in Scotland's top flight. 

A mainstay in the Rangers side since his arrival, Tavernier has only missed 6 league games during his time in Glasgow and has continually been one of the club's most consistent performers. 

Perhaps it is unsurprising, then, that Murty rewarded the 26-year-old with the opportunity to captain the side against Ayr United in the Scottish Cup last weekend. Tavernier was clearly ecstatic following the game and summed up his emotions via a tweet...
