Celtic fans want Jack Hendry to start against Zenit

Celtic face Zenit St. Petersburg in the first leg of their Europa League Round of 32 clash on Thursday night.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers arrives at the stadium prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Ranger at Celtic Park on December 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Brendan Rodgers has a huge decision to make regarding his starting line-up against Zenit St. Petersburg on Thursday night as a number of defenders are sidelined for the Round of 32 clash - and fans want Jack Hendry to start.

Celtic will be without Belgium international Dedryck Boyata while Marvin Compper is not expected to return to full fitness in time to face the Russian giants, as he is yet to overcome a calf injury and make his Hoops debut.

Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic started against Partick Thistle in the Scottish Cup win on Saturday, with January recruit Hendry cup tied after featuring for Dundee in the same competition earlier in the season.

However, the 22-year-old is now eligible to play against Roberto Mancini's side and he could be given his first ever European appearance as the Hoops look to secure an advantage on home soil ahead of next week's trip to Russia.

Celtic fans have called on Rodgers to throw 6ft 3in Hendry in to what is a baptism of fire against Zenit, which could see the Glasgow-born defender form one third of a three-man defence or indeed replace either Ajer or Simunovic.

One fan believes Hendry should start as Simunovic was "bullied" by Connor Salmon on the weekend.
