Arsenal released Harry Kane, who is now flourishing at bitter North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Liam Brady has admitted to Corriere della Sera that he made a mistake when he let Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane leave Arsenal.

Brady was then the Arsenal academy chief when the Gunners released Kane, who moved to bitter North London rivals Tottenham and has now established himself as one of the best strikers in the world.

The former Arsenal and Juventus attacking midfielder, 62, has admitted that it was a mistake to release Kane.

The former Celtic and Brighton and Hove Albion boss has also revealed that he released the 24-year-old because he was chubby and not athletic.

Brady told Corriere della Sera, as translated by The Mirror, about releasing Kane: “He was a bit chubby, he wasn’t very athletic but we made a mistake. But Tottenham sent him out on loan to lower-division clubs three or four times as well.

“But through his determination he has carved out an amazing career and he deserves it. He has a character that drives him to improve all the time.”

Flourishing at Tottenham Hotspur

Brady’s decision to release Kane was probably understandable at the time, but one suspects that the England international striker or Tottenham will not complain now.

The 24-year-old is flourishing at Spurs at the moment, and has been banging in the goals for fun since 2014.

Tottenham fans must be loving it at the moment, watching Kane go from strength to strength working under manager Mauricio Pochettino.
