Tottenham defender made his long awaited comeback.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld made his long awaited comeback last night in the FA Cup.

The Belgian has not played since the 3-1 victory against Real Madrid in the Champions League in October, when he suffered a hamstring injury.

Last night he made his comeback, keeping a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Newport County in the fourth round replay at Wembley.

Alderweireld sent a message on social media after the victory expressing his delight at being back.

Alderweireld’s return could not be better timed.

Tottenham face Arsenal in the North London derby at Wembley at the weekend, and then travel to Turin for the Champions League last 16 clash against Juventus.

Drawing in Wales against Newport was not ideal at the time for Spurs, but it has worked out in their favour as last night’s game allowed crucial run outs for Alderweireld, Harry Winks, Danny Rose and Erik Lamela, who all got more minutes under their belts and have given their manager extra options ahead of the big upcoming matches.
