After managing to ward off Chinese interest in star striker Alfredo Morelos, Rangers are keen to tie the Colombian down to a new deal with better terms.

Morelos only signed in the summer from HJK Helsinki but, after netting a league-best 11 goals so far this season, the Daily Star reports that Rangers are planning to open talks over an improved contract.

But, in the eyes of many Rangers fans, the Ibrox giants should be doing more to ensure Morelos’ in-form teammate does not depart Ibrox on the cheap come the end of the season.

James Tavernier of Rangers scores a penalty during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium on January 24, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Right-back James Tavernier has only got 18 months left on his deal. And, according to The Mail, has been eyed up by Reading and Sunderland, who hope that he may be available for a bargain price.

On this form, however, losing Tavernier simply does not bare thinking about. The former Newcastle United youngster hit his sixth goal of the season with a stunning strike away to Partick in midweek, and he has an exceptional eight assists to his name, too.

In short, Tavernier is one of the most important players in Rangers squad. Fortunately, the 27-year-old told STV recently that his heart is set firmly on winning trophies at Ibrox and he has no desire to leave until that unfinished business is resolved.

The next step, then, is to put pen to paper:
