Alleged Celtic target Artem Dovbyk has signed for Danish side Midtjylland.

Celtic ended the January transfer window with five new signings, but one alleged Bhoys target headed elsewhere as the deadline passed.

Brendan Rodgers’ men landed Marvin Compper, Lewis Morgan, Charly Musonda, Scott Bain and Jack Hendry last month, and whilst Morgan heads back to St Mirren for the rest of the season, Celtic have boosted their squad.

Rodgers didn’t manage to land a new striker though, which was mostly because Celtic did manage to keep hold of Moussa Dembele, but it does mean that one alleged target went elsewhere.

Back in November, Tribuna in Ukraine reported that Celtic were keen to land Dnipro striker Artem Dovbyk, and were rivalling Augsburg for his signature ahead of his contract expiring in January.

After 18 goals in 35 games for Dnipro, the 20-year-old centre forward entered the transfer window in demand, and left it as a Midtjylland player after completing a late move to Denmark.

Scott Brown and an emotional Celtic farewell

Midtjylland lost goalscorer Alexander Sorloth to Crystal Palace on deadline day, and swooped to land Dovbyk as his replacement as Celtic – if reports are to be believed – missed out on his signature.

Celtic may already have reason to watch Midtjylland given that Bhoys defender Erik Sviatchenko is currently on loan there, and it may also give Celtic the chance to keep tabs on Dovbyk.

Scoring in Ukraine’s second tier is one thing, but heading to Denmark will be a step up for Dovbyk, and it would be wise for Celtic to keep watching him and follow his progress ahead of potentially launching a future move.
