The former Celtic man’s career has had its fair share of controversy over the years.

Irish international Anthony Stokes, 29, has left Hibs by mutual consent according to the BBC.

The former Celtic man has been blighted by controversy throughout his career and it is reported that Hibs boss Neil Lennon, who previously worked with Stokes for many years at the Bhoys, has come to the end of his patience.

As reported by the Daily Record, Stokes was allegedly involved in an incident involving a curfew on the club’s winter training trip to Portugal and, since then, has been exiled from the first-team.

There were rumours of a potential sale of the player, however, Sky Sports confirmed yesterday that the striker is free to leave following the termination of his contract.

Stokes was enjoying his third stint at Easter Road and was only six months into his two-year-contract. In total, he has netted 44 goals for the Hibees in 92 appearances, 11 of those coming in 21 games this season.

The Hibs fans will always remember Stokes for the vital role he played in the club’s emphatic Scottish Cup Final victory over Rangers in 2016, when the Irishman netted a double, keeping them in the game and allowing David Gray to go on to grab the winner.

Despite losing a forward, Lennon’s squad is not short of options, with new loan signing Jamie Maclaren joining from Darmstadt 98 to partner the likes of Simon Murray and Oli Shaw in the striker department.
